Tinder's "Tinja" pop-up in Tokyo

Tinder · Sep 2025

Tinder Japan's "Tinja" Breakup Shrine ran September 12-15 at ZeroBase Shibuya, blending Shinto-inspired severance rituals with digital-era emotional healing.

Participants could anonymously submit toxic relationship stories to the "Moyasanakya" exhibition, "burn" these experiences, engage in fortune-telling (for app users), and share cool cup of “Tinja Ale."

Instead of pushing their app, Tinder created something their audience actually needed: a space for emotional healing.

I dont know if this will help Tinder elevate from swipe-based dating to emotional storytelling platform but its a meaningful effort ...AND...

Points to how brands can create activations that put the interests of the audience first while still making a strong statement for the brand.

There are a lot of gains to be had when brands create space for genuine human emotions, interests, rather than interrupting people's lives.

Its a lot easier to be memorable as a brand when you truly connect emotionally.
