Porsche Pivots from Performance to Provenance

Porsche · Oct 2025

...sorry, too many "Ps" in the title

In September 2025, Porsche opened its first-ever pop-up brand space in Asia on Shanghai's Huaihai Road, moving into a space usually dominated by watch, jewelry brands, along Shanghai's luxury highstreet.

There's a pivot in messaging taking place :)

About the Pop-Up:

The iconic 356 No.1 Roadster sits alongside the electric Macan, visually bridging 75 years of racing DNA.

A 15-meter GT rear-wing art installation and the legendary "Pink Pig" 911

Beyond the car — Collaborations with PLUSONE Café and curated retail extend Porsche into everyday luxury and lifestyle

The pop-up is jam packed with UGC, RED-worthy photo opps and a deep dive into the provenance of Porsche as a company of craft.

Experiences Matter:

China's premium consumers don't just want products — they want experiences that reflect their identity. A recent study by EY, suggests that China's consumers - more than any others globally - value brand experiences ...with 85% of consumers willing to pay for a brand experience (if it wasnt included as part of their patronage).

Positioning is the Bigger Story:

We're seeing luxury automotive brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Lamborghini shift from product showrooms to immersive cultural spaces - where they can present their products as Objects of Art.

Luxury, foreign, automakers (especially in China's intensely competitive market, where many of the local EVs have superior performance), are leaning heavily into the type of marketing that watchmakers have mastered, in positioning their products as art, collectibles, objects of personality.

Where the message in a prior era would've been more about performance, its now, much more about curation, story and provenance.
