PANE is adding cultural layers faster than new locations

PANE · Jun 2026

PANE's Yongyuan Road flagship has been one of Shanghai's most-watched independent footwear spaces since it opened. Now they've added a second layer: The Attic — full-wall vinyl displays, vintage audio equipment, an upright piano, crimson carpets, velvet sofas, shoes in glass cases like museum objects.

The Brand Clubhouse(s)

The Attic isn't a refresh. It's a programming commitment — recurring art exhibitions, vinyl listening sessions, DIY workshops built into its signature retail space. PANE is converting a retail location into a cultural address.

We recently visited PANE's Shanghai studio — the office and product development space where the brand is actually built. Same energy. Same intentionality. Artefacts, references, and brand icons covering every surface.

The Attic and the studio feel like two rooms in the same house — one faces inward toward the creative process, one faces outward toward the community. Both are doing the same work: making PANE legible as a world, not just a label.

The Shenzhen Bay MixC opening earlier this year introduced "slow exhibition-style retail" as a format. The Attic makes that permanent and gives it a social calendar. As the store count grows, the cultural infrastructure is growing with it.

With this approach to mixing culture and product development, it's no wonder PANE has become a must-have souvenir for visitors to Shanghai.
