Nike brings ACG “Base Camp” to Beijing
Nike recently opened the first standalone ACG (All Conditions Gear) store globally in Taikoo Li Sanlitun, Beijing (February 2026). The launch activations were supported by female basketball star, Liwei Yang and actor Ci Sha.
Positioned as a “Base Camp,” the space is designed less like a traditional store — and more like a hub for outdoor culture.
In keeping with the China model of retail as storytelling + community, the "Base Camp" space, leans heavily into exploration:
• Trail running and hiking gear at the core
• Environment built around mountaineering “base camp” cues
• Space designed for community — not just transaction

Why Nike is doing this now
Nike is playing from (way) behind with the trend towards outdoor in China.
While Nike has maintained strong positions in running and basketball, brands like Arc’teryx and Salomon have been running away with China’s fast-growing outdoor market!
Nike has not had any means to compete in this space. And, they cannot afford to take an "L" on this trend - as they have done with previous missed trends (yoga/athleisure = Lululemon).
So, ACG is Nike's vehicle to catch up in the outdoor space:

• Trail and hiking demand
• The rise of “urban outdoor”
• Outdoor as everyday lifestyle

One of the signals that ACG is a priority is that they have setup dedicated social accounts (on RED) - for the ACG brand and the flagship store itself.
Some context here is important, as Nike typically does not open sub-accounts, usually preferring to keep them under the main Nike account.
The trend towards outdoor/adventure in China is a secular shift, so this is mission critical for Nike!
