icebreaker's China ambitions just got a flagship

Icebreaker · May 2026

KOL: Liu Xueyi, icebreaker Nature Ambassador

icebreaker's 19th store in China — and their most important. Since opening its first Chinese retail location in Beijing in October 2023, the brand has built an 18-store network in under three years. The Taikoo Li global flagship is the punctuation mark on that run.

The store earns the address. Original timber construction woven with Chinese bamboo craft, plus a dedicated "Wool Library" where visitors handle different merino grades. In a category that defaults to performance specs, giving consumers something to feel is a smarter sell.

The trail-to-street consumer is already here. So is icebreaker

The gap icebreaker occupies is real. China's outdoor/athleisure consumer want gear that moves from trail to street without changing - and have higher demands on design than pure performance customers in other regions.

The material timing is right too: wool sportswear sales in China rose 58% year-on-year to July 2025. Merino sits in that gap better than almost any material: breathable, odor-resistant, inherently premium, comfortable enough for a Chengdu afternoon. The natural performance story lands cleanly where health, nature, and lifestyle are converging in the same purchase.

Liu Xueyi's presence adds cultural credibility. The in-store social campaign drives foot traffic with purpose.

The category timing is right. The flagship suggests icebreaker knows it.
